Thuringia: Ascension weekend "windy and horrible"

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Ascension Day weekend is overshadowed by clouds in Thuringia. "This weekend will be windy and dreary - all in all not particularly summery," said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service on Saturday. A maximum of 16 to 17 degrees can be expected on both the last Saturday and Sunday in May. In addition, many clouds are moving over the Free State, from which rain showers could fall again and again locally - "maybe there will also be a short thunderstorm". Strong winds can also be expected in north-eastern Thuringia on Saturday.

Even after the weekend, showers and thunderstorms will continue, said the meteorologist. According to the DWD, improvement is only in sight from Tuesday. From then on, maximum temperatures of up to 20 degrees can be reached again. Meteorologically, summer begins on June 1 (Wednesday). Towards the end of the week, just in time for Pentecost, the temperatures should climb above the 20 degree mark again.
