Thuringia: Bathing fun in Thuringia consistently undisturbed: top ratings

Erfurt/Copenhagen (dpa/th) - The lakes in Thuringia continue to have excellent water quality. This emerges from the annual bathing water report of the European Environment Agency EEA, which the Copenhagen-based EU authority presented on Friday. 40 bathing spots in Thuringia were examined. With the exception of the Aga lido near Gera, all bathing areas have been certified as having excellent water quality. In Aga, the water quality was rated "good".

The bathing lakes in Thuringia are thus in line with the Environment Agency's assessment for the whole of Germany. In 2021, 90.4 percent of all German bathing waters were of excellent water quality. Only 14 of the approximately 2,291 bathing areas were classified as poor because there were questionable bacteria in the water - in 2020 there were 11.

The EEA data refer to the bathing season of the previous year. The EEA therefore recommends bathers to check with local and national authorities and beach operators for the latest information on possible safety measures before jumping into the cool water this summer.
