Thuringia: Brehm Museum receives extension for 1.7 million euros

Renthendorf (dpa/th) - The Brehm Museum in East Thuringia Renthendorf is to get a new extension for 1.7 million euros. "The building application has been signed and we expect construction to start in the fall," said the Brehm Memorial Association on Friday. The museum is part of the memorial for the naturalist Alfred Brehm (1829-1884), author of the standard work "Brehm's Animal Life", in the Saale-Holzland district. The place of remembrance was recently nominated for the Federal Register of Intangible Unesco Cultural Heritage.

The museum was recently extensively renovated and restored. A functional building is to be built by the end of 2023, which will house, among other things, a museum foyer, offices, a multifunctional room as well as the library and a café. At the time of the naturalist, there was a barn and a wash house on the site.

"This is how the old floor plans are taken up again," said the association. An important goal of the construction measures is also barrier-free access to the museum. The 1.7 million euros in funding come from the federal and state governments.
