Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to the CDU parliamentary group, the new migration minister Doreen Denstädt (Greens) should address problems in refugee policy at the Thuringian refugee summit. "I expect the minister to be committed and to demand solutions so that our municipalities are not overwhelmed by the requirements," said migration policy spokesman for the Thuringian CDU parliamentary group, Stefan Schard, on Wednesday in Erfurt.
According to Schard, municipalities bear the main burden of housing refugees. There is no more capacity. He also called for faster deportations and that "obstacles to deportation, such as passport issues, be clarified much more quickly".
At the refugee summit planned by Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), representatives of the federal, state and local governments are to discuss migration issues on Thursday. The local authorities are calling for more support from the federal government in housing and caring for war refugees from Ukraine and other people seeking protection. The meeting should also address the question of how Faeser intends to limit irregular migration to Germany and promote the repatriation of rejected asylum seekers.
