Thuringia: City of Erfurt recommends cool places and drinking water dispensers

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The city of Erfurt is calling on the population to drink in view of the high temperatures and persistent heat. "Make active use of Erfurt's drinking fountains," says the city's heat portal. There are a total of eight fountains with drinking water in the city center, for example on the Anger, on the Fischmarkt and on the Domplatz. All drinking fountains are identified as such with a sign or pictogram. In addition, the city advises "using the cool water of the bathing lakes, outdoor pools and indoor swimming pools".

Trees also provided pleasant shade in the parks and in the forests. If you have to stay in the city, you should cool down in air-conditioned areas. Churches or the Erfurt Cathedral are also great places to escape from the heat and take a breather. "You will also find constant temperatures in museums, because the exhibits depend on them for their preservation."

The heat portal is a component of the heat action plan for the city that has been in preparation since 2020. Meteorologists expect temperatures of up to 40 degrees this week. According to the German Weather Service, the peak of the extreme heat in the west and south-west is Tuesday. On Wednesday, the heat will shift to the east and northeast. Temperatures of up to 38 degrees were expected in Thuringia on Tuesday with continuous sunshine.
