Thuringia: Consumer Advice Center: Take your cell phone out of your pocket when it's hot

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Thuringia consumer advice center advises protecting smartphones, tablets and e-readers from the sun when it is hot. "Heat is almost as dangerous for mobile devices as it is for humans and animals," said the Thuringian consumer center (VZTH) on Wednesday. The motto is to take off the mobile phone covers to prevent heat build-up and, above all, to take the mobile phones out of your trouser pockets. "Body heat and sweating will add heat to the device and possibly also moisture. This moisture can penetrate the device and damage it - unless it is specifically waterproof," it said. The devices are better kept in a handbag or backpack.

In order to avoid permanent damage to batteries, displays and processors, for example, mobile devices must be protected from the sun. "Putting your cell phone in the fridge isn't a good idea," warn the experts. "Dangerous condensation can form in the device." The consumer advice center also recommends that devices that suddenly switch off by themselves should not be switched on again immediately. It may be self-protection from overheating, so wait a moment.
