Thuringia: Despite the toilet van for the police, rental toilets are still necessary

In 2019, the Thuringian police had purchased their own toilet van for their officers. In the meantime, the vehicle has been in regular use. However, it is not entirely possible without rental toilets.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The toilet van of the Thuringian police has been in regular use over the past two years. In 2022, the special vehicle had been used in 27 operations so far, said a spokesman for the state police department on request. Among other things, it was used during the celebrations for the Day of German Unity in Erfurt in October, and also during the major raid against "Reich citizens" at the beginning of December. Last year, the vehicle took part in 38 operations.

Many Thuringian police officers had been waiting for the almost ten-metre-long special truck for years. After all, the vehicle was purchased in 2019 at a price of around 300,000 euros. Previously, the police had to regularly look for sanitary facilities for the officers, for example at gas stations or rent mobile toilets, especially during large-scale operations. However, according to the spokesman, the police still cannot do without such rentals entirely - because of the often simultaneous operations in different places. In 2022, rental expenses of around 2700 euros were incurred, a year earlier it was around 4400 euros.

According to the police, the toilet car was “basically always ready for use”. Apart from TÜV checks or service work, it has been to the workshop three times unscheduled - with downtimes of around 14 days each.
