Thuringia: Discussions on the budget: Siegesmund urges more staff

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Despite the rejection of Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) for additional jobs, Thuringia's Environment Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens) is pushing for more staff for her ministry. "We want to speed up the planning and approval procedures. This requires more staff, because we need people in the administration who can process such procedures quickly," said Siegesmund after the end of the first chief talks on the 2023 budget with Taubert on Monday of the German Press Agency . These people could also come from other areas of the state government.

Taubert had previously made it clear that she saw no room for additional positions in the state administration. "There will be no job increase in 2023," she said on Friday. Overall, the financial requirements reported by the ministries exceeded the targets by almost 800 million euros.

Siegesmund said she had agreed to have another conversation with Taubert. "I am asking the finance minister to set the right priorities in these times." The energy transition through the expansion of renewables, as well as more energy efficiency and savings is a key issue for the government.
