Thuringia: Erfurt: Fire and barbecue ban in parks and green spaces

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Due to the persistent drought, the city of Erfurt has issued a barbecue ban for all municipal parks and green spaces. The ban also applies to the permanently installed barbecue areas, the city administration announced on Wednesday. Fires are also no longer allowed to be lit.

Since the risk of forest and meadow fires is high, the lighting of candles or charcoal, for example for hookahs, is also prohibited. It is also not permitted to throw away matches or glowing cigarette butts or to dispose of ashes or tobacco remains, as these could start a fire. According to this information, glass bottles or shards can also cause fires. The Garden and Cemetery Office therefore asked for particular care and attention.

As it was also said, the access roads to fields, forests and parks must be kept free. This is to ensure that emergency vehicles from the fire brigade and rescue services can pass in an emergency.
