Thuringia: Erfurt is preparing to celebrate Unity Day

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's state capital decorates itself for the central celebration on the Day of German Unity. The city administration announced that the floral presentation of Erfurt's partner cities was opened this Saturday. Thuringia and thus its state capital are hosting the central celebration on October 3 this year, to which visitors from all 16 federal states and representatives of the federal government are expected. A public festival is also planned.

Traditionally, the federal state that holds the presidency of the Bundesrat in the respective year is the host of the unity celebration. Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) is currently President of the Federal Council. According to the State Chancellery, the motto of this year's German Unity Day is "growing together".

According to the city administration, eleven plant arrangements stand for Erfurt's partner cities. The city administration explained that concise motifs such as coats of arms and monuments, symbolic plants typical of the country or motifs from the natural and cultural landscape were interpreted in a herbal way.
