Erfurt (dpa/th) - With 2172 registered electric cars, Erfurt is the e-car capital in Thuringia. The Wartburg district follows with 1245 and the city of Weimar with 1134 e-cars, as the Thuringian energy and green tech agency (Thega) announced on Wednesday. According to this information, very few are on the road in Suhl (305), in the district of Hildburghausen (395) and in the district of Sonneberg (404). All figures relate to the key date of January 1, 2022.

According to Thega, the number of electric cars on Thuringia's roads has almost doubled in the past year. As of January 1, 17,173 electric cars were registered in Bavaria, of which 8,898 were purely electric vehicles. That was 3340 than on the same day last year. There were also 8,275 plug-in hybrid cars (plus 4,212) that combine an externally chargeable battery and an internal combustion engine. According to the Thega information, there are now a total of 7,552 more electric cars in Bavaria than at the same time last year.

The number of public charging points in Thuringia has also increased from 873 to 1108 within a year. According to Thega, in 2020 there were still 677 charging points in Thuringia. This means that 16 e-cars currently share one charging option. The spectrum in Thuringia ranges from 9 e-cars per charging option in the Kyffhäuser district to 35 in Weimar.
