Thuringia: Experts examine Heidecksburg-Marstall for renovation

Rudolstadt (dpa/th) - The preparatory work for the renovation of the stables at Heidecksburg Castle in Rudolstadt has begun. For example, experts will trace the construction phases of the centuries-old building, as stated in a statement from the Thuringian Palaces and Gardens Foundation on Tuesday. The castle in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt is also the seat of the foundation. The results of the investigations are to be used for the thorough renovation of the Marstall.

The building on the north side of the castle courtyard once housed horse stables and servants. "Hippomania, the passion for horses, has long had its place at Heidecksburg Castle," the statement said. Horse breeding and dressage played an important role at the court of the counts and princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt.

The foundation can draw on funds from a special investment program for the work. The federal and state governments are providing the foundation with 200 million euros to get cultural monuments into shape. By 2027, there will be 23 individual projects throughout Thuringia.
