Thuringia: fire in wood processing company: 150,000 euros damage

Nordhausen/Gernrode (dpa/th) - According to the police, a fire on the premises of a wood processing company in Gernrode (Eichsfeld district) caused property damage initially estimated at around 150,000 euros. For reasons that have not yet been clarified, wood that had been stored outdoors caught fire around 2.30 a.m., the police said on Tuesday. Around 4500 cubic meters of stacked wood fell victim to the flames. The fire was extinguished by the afternoon, but individual embers were still flaring up, it said. The fire brigade is on fire watch. According to the police, no one was injured. On Wednesday, the criminal police want to start the investigation at the scene of the fire.
