Thuringia: Flu season has started: over 200 cases in Thuringia

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The first cases of virus flu from the 2022/23 season have been counted in Thuringia. So far, 241 cases of influenza have been detected by laboratory diagnostics, the State Ministry of Health announced on Friday. More than half of these were recorded in the first week of the autumn holidays. According to the Influenza Working Group at the Robert Koch Institute, the number of infections is currently increasing. After two years of relatively low flu numbers - a result of the protective measures in the corona pandemic - doctors expect more illnesses again this season.

In the past 2021/22 season, around 500 influenza diseases were registered in Thuringia, although this number only includes cases that were detected by laboratory diagnostics. However, many doctors do without laboratory diagnostics because the symptoms are usually clear. Doctors point out that wearing face masks to protect against corona infection also protects against infection with flu viruses or other pathogens of respiratory diseases.
