Thuringia: food burns: sleeping man saved from apartment

Hildburghausen (dpa/th) - Firefighters rescued a sleeping man from his smoky apartment in Hildburghausen. The 63-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries from smoke inhalation, police said on Wednesday. He reportedly drank alcohol while preparing dinner on Tuesday and then fell asleep. The food burned and there was an enormous amount of smoke in his apartment, which also triggered the smoke detector. Since the man did not respond to the ringing and knocking of the fire brigade, the emergency services opened the door independently and rescued the man.
