Eisenach/Brotterode (dpa/th) - According to IG Metall, hundreds of jobs at the car supplier Marelli Automotive Lighting Brotterode are at risk. The parent company announced that only about 125 jobs would remain at the site by 2025, said the regional representative of IG Metall, Uwe Laubach, on Tuesday when asked. Including temporary workers, Marelli would currently employ around 900 workers there, mainly producing headlights. The company in Brotterode did not want to comment, and the parent company initially did not comment on request.
Including suppliers for automotive lighting, up to 1,000 jobs are at risk in the region, according to the Laubach trade unionist. "That's a catastrophe." The aim of IG Metall is to get the Marelli site in southern Thuringia. The AfD parliamentary group first pointed out the problem on Tuesday.
According to the IG Metall representative, the orders for the Brotterode plant will expire in the next few years. "The plant will then no longer be served with orders," said Laubach. He still hopes that the company will give in - also considering the potentially high costs of severance payments.
Marelli Automotive Lighting Brotterode specializes in vehicle exterior lighting such as LED headlights, adaptive headlights and laser high beam modules.
