Weimar/Suhl (dpa/th) - The initial reception center for refugees in Suhl is still close to the capacity limit. 1,377 places were occupied in the accommodation on Monday, as a spokesman for the state administration office in Weimar said. In total there are around 1390 available places in the facility. 44 refugees have now found accommodation in Eisenberg (Saale-Holzland district). This facility was originally intended to accommodate Afghan local workers and, according to earlier information from the authorities, has a capacity of around 100 places.
The spokesman explained that it is also being considered to use tents to accommodate refugees. Containers are currently not available.
According to figures from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf), 3983 asylum applications were made in Thuringia between January and the end of October. Ukrainian refugees do not have to apply for asylum, but can apply for a residence permit directly.
