Thuringia: IW: Thuringians benefit more from fuel price reductions

Erfurt/Cologne (dpa/th) - In Thuringia, after the tax cut on Wednesday, drivers in particular who fill up with E10 fuel can look forward to it - they benefit above average from the measures throughout Germany. According to an evaluation by the Institute of German Economics (IW) in Cologne, customers in Thuringia paid an average of 28.1 cents less per day, only Saxony with 28.8 cents and Bremen with around 28.5 cents per liter were ahead of them across Germany.

Diesel drivers in Bavaria also benefited from the tax cut: they paid an average of 9.0 cents less per liter than before. In Bavaria it was only 8.0 cents, in Bremen at least 12.0 cents. There were some significant regional differences. While diesel drivers in some districts also had to pay up to 12.0 cents less, in the Unstrut-Hainich district it was just 3.0 cents.

In order to relieve consumers, the tax on fuel was reduced on Wednesday. Since then, the tax advantage for E10 has been 35.2 cents per liter, for diesel it is 16.7 cents. However, it does not become valid at the petrol pump, but rather from the tank farm or refinery, so petrol stations may still have stocks for which a higher tax was due.
