Sonneberg (dpa/th) - Once again, a kangaroo from the Sonneberg zoo was out and about outside the zoo. The animal got lost on private property not far from the zoo on Sunday morning, the police said on Monday. According to information, employees of the zoo took care of the runaway, it said.
It's not the first time the kangaroo has been spotted outside its enclosure. "It's the house and yard kangaroo that always escapes," said a spokeswoman for the operating housing GmbH Sonneberg. Whether the animal has been hopping through Sonneberg for months, as some suspect, has been neither confirmed nor denied. An "extraordinary and large snake" was sighted in a garden about a 20-minute walk away on Sunday afternoon. A local resident spotted the animal, police said. An expert identified the animal as a nearly 60 centimeter tall, native, young grass snake. The snake was then moved to the neighboring forest.
