Thuringia: Klassik Stiftung celebrates Wieland anniversary in Weimar

Oßmannstedt (dpa/th) - On Friday (12.00 p.m.) the Wielandgut Oßmannstedt near Weimar will be ceremonially reopened with its new permanent exhibition "Germany's first writer". The occasion is the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the writer Christoph Martin Wieland (1733-1813) in Weimar. Among others, Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) and Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left) are expected to attend the celebration. On the following day, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar opens the gates of the manor house in Oßmannstedt to the general public.

The village of Oßmannstedt is about ten kilometers east of Weimar. The writer, playwright, translator and publicist Christoph Martin Wieland lived and worked there from 1797 to 1803. The manor house where Wieland lived now houses a multimedia museum on Wieland's life, work and impact, as well as an educational institution. The complex also includes a large landscaped park.
