Thuringia: landslide and accidents: rain affects traffic

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Heavy rain disrupted traffic in several regions in Thuringia on Tuesday. According to an assessment by the police, however, the Free State got off lightly. There was some heavy rain, but initially no injuries and no major damage, as a spokesman for the state operations center said.

There were a few restrictions due to streets full of rain in the Wartburg district, for example. No further action was necessary on the affected streets near Eisenach and Gotha. At Tiefenort, however, parts of a slope slipped onto the road due to heavy rain. The larger amounts of mud on the street were still being cleared on Tuesday afternoon. The road remained closed for clearance work.

According to a spokesman for the Thuringian motorway police, there were several "rain accidents" on the Autobahn 4 and 71. For example, a truck drove into the middle plank on the A4 in the direction of Dresden. Here, as on the A71, individual lanes were closed due to the accident.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the day started with a thick cloud cover and isolated showers. Local heavy rain and thunderstorms broke out in the morning. On Wednesday it should be a bit friendlier again with a mix of sun and clouds.
