Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to the state parliamentary group of the left in Thuringia, the time until vacancies are filled is above average. On average, it takes 184 days to find suitable employees, compared to only 124 days for the national average. That said the labor market policy spokeswoman for the parliamentary group, Lena Saniye Güngör, on Tuesday in Erfurt. In Thuringia, it even takes 236 days to find someone for an offered position in geriatric care. This shows how problematic the situation among skilled workers in the Free State is already.
Güngör presented a catalog of possible steps to improve the situation when it comes to recruiting skilled workers, which is crucial for Thuringia's future as a business location. "The recruitment of skilled workers is one of the biggest challenges for the country." Longer working hours, such as the 42-hour week now proposed, or a later retirement age are no solutions for the left. Rather, the Left Group in Thuringia wants to return to the retirement age of 65.
According to Güngör, the number of Thuringians of working age will drop by 247,000 by 2030. That's a drop of about 30 percent.
