Thuringia: Many property tax returns are still missing

Erfurt (dpa/th) - So far, almost 600,000 property tax returns have been received in the Thuringian tax offices. This corresponds to around 48 percent of the expected 1.25 million property tax returns, as announced by the Ministry of Finance in Erfurt on Tuesday. Declarations for undeveloped land as well as agricultural and forestry areas would only be received slowly by the tax offices, it said.

"Regardless of whether it is an orchard behind the garden, a leased meadow in the village or the weekend cottage on a recreational property, a declaration must be made in all cases," said Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) according to the announcement. The Ministry advises all property owners in the Free State to submit their property tax returns as soon as possible. The deadline ends on January 31st. The new property tax will then be due from January 1, 2025.
