Thuringia: memorial service for victims of the house fire in Apolda

Apolda (dpa/th) - The victims of the fire disaster in Apolda will be commemorated this evening (6 p.m.) with a service. Four people died in the fire in the apartment building last Sunday. Almost two dozen people were injured, some seriously, including two firefighters. A 35-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of murder and arson. Bulgarian families had lived in the house, which was largely destroyed by the fire.

The ecumenical prayer in the Lutheran Church should also be a sign of solidarity with the Bulgarian community, said the pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran parish in Apolda, Susanne Böhm. "We are all shaken." According to city administration statistics, around 770 Bulgarian nationals live in the 22,000-inhabitant district town of the Weimarer Land.
