Thuringia: Mixed harvest in Thuringia

Bad Langensalza (dpa/th) - The Thuringian farmers have drawn a sobering harvest balance. The almost constant lack of precipitation since March has led to yield and quality losses in many places in Thuringia, said farmer president Klaus Wagner on Thursday in Bad Langesalza. Agriculture Minister Susanna Karawanskij (left) spoke of a regionally very mixed harvest. "We have peak yields in some regions and complete failures in other regions."

Although the acreage for grain has increased by almost 10,000 hectares in Bavaria compared to the previous year, the total harvest volume of around 2.38 million tons is around 40,000 tons less than in 2021. According to the minister, the results are also below the six-year average. While grain farmers got off lightly, the extreme drought caused massive losses in crops such as corn, potatoes and sugar beets.
