Thuringia: Modernization of the cabrio car of the mountain railway completed

Lichtenhain (dpa/th) - The open convertible car of the Thuringian mountain railway is back in service in Lichtenhain (Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district) after the modernization work has been completed. The Thuringian mountain railway has spent around 87,000 euros for the extensive modernization of the car, Deutsche Bahn AG announced on Tuesday. The specialists for historic railway vehicles at the Meiningen steam locomotive works renewed the floor, the drainage, the sound and operating technology and carried out various cosmetic repairs.

According to the information, the convertible car was built from a railway service car from a former construction train as an open add-on car for the Thuringian mountain railway and has been in use since 2008. It can be transported on the goods platform in alternation with the closed attachment wagon. Since the convertible is significantly longer than the closed trailer, it extends far beyond the goods platform. This enables nicer views, since the passengers sit even higher above the track.
