Thuringia: money and jewelery worth 50,000 euros stolen

Erfurt (dpa/th) - tricksters stole cash, jewelry and coins worth 50,000 euros from an 83-year-old man in Erfurt. According to the police on Friday, a woman called him on Thursday and pretended that his son was responsible for a traffic accident that killed several people. Bail is required to avoid arrest. The pensioner then handed money and valuables to an unknown man on his doorstep. It wasn't until the criminals were all over the mountains that the swindle was exposed.

Also in Erfurt, a 50-year-old woman transferred 3,000 euros to a scammer. According to the police, they had pretended to be her daughter via SMS and Whatsapp since Wednesday and had made her believe that she could no longer transfer money. The police advise potential fraud victims to ask their relatives in such cases before unsuspectingly transferring money or handing it over to strangers.
