Thuringia: More single fathers in Thuringia

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In Thuringia, more and more children who are separated are growing up with their father. The number of single fathers has increased by 9.1 percent to around 12,000 in the past ten years, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday on the occasion of the upcoming Father's Day. This means that 5.6 percent of the 216,000 fathers with at least one child in the household were last single parents.

For comparison: According to the State Statistical Office, 62,000 mothers in the Free State were single parents in 2021 - and thus about one in five mothers. Ten years earlier, there were still 69,000 mothers who had lived alone with their children. The statisticians referred to figures from the 2021 microcensus.

Over the past ten years, the total number of fathers in Bavaria has fallen by 11.8 percent. Most of you are still in a married couple. However, the popularity of this way of life has recently fallen sharply: in 2011, 186,000 married couples were still raising children in the Free State, in 2021 there were only 150,000. The number of extramarital partnerships with children, on the other hand, increased and was 54,000 in 2021.
