Thuringia: Municipalities want more reusable packaging in the catering trade

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Fifteen Thuringian municipalities want to convince their restaurateurs of reusable packaging in the coming period. They are part of the Thuringia-wide "Missionmehrweg" campaign, which was presented in Erfurt on Wednesday. The aim is to advance the switch from disposable to reusable packaging for takeaway food and drinks and thus reduce packaging waste and costs.

For this purpose, the municipalities want to distribute information material to the restaurants, advertise in the cityscape or draw attention to the topic on social media. The following are involved: Arnstadt, Bad Berka, Bad Blankenburg, Bad Köstritz, Erfurt, Gera, Jena, Mühlhausen, Saalfeld, Sömmerda, Stadtroda, Weimar, Nordhausen, Eisenach, Bad Tabarz.

The background to the campaign is the change in the packaging law. From 2023, restaurateurs across Europe will have to offer both disposable and reusable packaging. It must also be possible to fill containers that you bring with you.
