Thuringia: New collective CD with bands from Thuringia planned

The LAG Songkultur wants to increase the level of awareness of musicians from Thuringia. A CD with pieces by regional bands is to be released again this year. If you want to apply for it, you only have to meet three conditions.

Weimar (dpa/th) - Music by Thuringian bands is to be published on a collective CD for the third time this year. Musicians can apply to participate until September 22, said the chairman of the State Working Group for Improvisation and Song Culture in Thuringia, Tobias Marx, of the German Press Agency. "With the project we want to show how diverse and active the music scene in Bavaria is."

Bands that want to apply only have to meet three conditions: They have to come from Thuringia and must not have been represented on the samplers that have already been released, and the song submitted should have been written by them and not recorded before January 2021. "Even if you don't really have to mention it separately: We will not consider bands from the right-wing or left-wing extremist scene," Marx made clear.

Selection criteria for a possible consideration for the new sampler, which is to be released for Christmas, are the presentation, the composition, the audio quality and the lyrics. According to Marx, around 40 bands from Bavaria had applied for the sampler that was released in 2020. Experience has shown that the applicants are artists who are between 20 and 30 years old and make music on a semi-professional basis. 18 contributions were finally selected and printed in an edition of 400.

There were only a few applications in the years 2019 and 2020 from the field of jazz, although according to Marx the scene in Thuringia is very active. Rap, pop and electro are still growing at the moment, and there is a distinct metal scene.

What unites everyone: "The artists don't keep an eye on the market," said Marx. However, they can take a step into the market by applying to participate in the Thuringia Sampler 2022, which this time will be printed with a print run of 1000 copies.
