Thuringia: New housing for police candidates planned in Meiningen

Meiningen (dpa/th) - Thuringian police candidates are to be accommodated in a new building in Meiningen costing around 25.2 million euros from 2024. Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD) symbolically laid the foundation stone for the new building on Tuesday together with the managing director of LEG Thuringia, Sabine Wosche, as his ministry announced. The aim is to further develop the training center of the Thuringian police in Meiningen in the style of a campus. "Nice, open, comfortable and suitable for young people. We are building a state-of-the-art building here," explained Maier.

In the future, 300 police trainees will be accommodated in the new building. The Ministry of the Interior also sees the construction as an important step "to further increase the attractiveness of the Meiningen location".

According to the information, a three-storey new building in a U-shape is planned, which is to be erected in a modular wood-hybrid construction system - with massive wooden wall elements that are visible from the inside. The living spaces should each have a size of around 17 square meters including the bathroom. Common areas such as tea kitchens and club rooms are also planned. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the U-shape creates an internal campus area that is easily accessible from all sides.
