Thuringia: No new edition of Solarinvest planned

This year, Thuringia subsidized photovoltaic systems, primarily on house roofs, with ten million euros. The money was gone within a few days of the start of the program. But there will be no new edition.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - There will be no new edition of Thuringia's Solarinvest subsidy program, which has recently been in great demand. "The new course set by the new federal government has shown that solar expansion pays off again," said a spokesman for the Thuringian Ministry of the Environment when asked. Added to this are the rising electricity prices, so that investments in self-powered systems pay off more quickly. Environment Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens) said the solar turnaround had arrived in Thuringia. There are already around 46,000 systems and their goal is 100,000 solar systems by 2025.

For several years, state financial injections for the installation of solar systems and electricity storage systems, especially on house roofs, were granted via the Solarinvest program. When the program was launched again in April 2022, the around ten million euros earmarked for it were sold out in a short time. At times, the promotional bank's servers were overloaded due to the high demand.

According to Siegesmund, when it started in 2016, the program was still a "shelf keeper" and there was little demand. "When a funding program flies like this, you're very happy," she said. In the meantime, however, everyone who deals with the topic can see: "It pays off - and very quickly, even without funding."

The federal government had changed the funding structure for solar systems this year. Among other things, higher feed-in tariffs are planned. For systems that are mainly used for self-consumption and produce less than 10 kilowatts peak output, there is 8.6 cents per kilowatt hour for excess electricity that is fed into the grid, for larger systems 7.5 and for very large systems 6.2 Cent.

Last year, 4,666 solar systems with an output of around 181 megawatts were installed in Thuringia.
