Thuringia: Number of work accidents in Thuringia declining

Accidents can occur on construction sites, at production sites, but also in other work situations. Not all are - as actually required - reported to the occupational safety authorities.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In Thuringia, the number of accidents at work decreased last year. However, there were more serious accidents than in 2020, according to figures from the Department of Labor. Overall, the occupational safety authorities in the Free State counted 6,867 accidents at work in 2021, compared to 7,526 in the previous year. The number of serious accidents, on the other hand, rose from 18 to 33, while the number of fatal accidents remained the same at 4.

According to the information, 1,387 accidents that occurred at work have been registered so far in the current year. 14 were considered serious accidents, 4 fatal accidents have already been reported.

However, the ministry pointed out that not all accident reports reach the occupational safety authorities. These would only receive notifications if an accident resulted in an inability to work for more than three days or death.

The main addressees of the accident report are the responsible professional associations. Not infrequently, it is neglected to inform the state occupational safety authority as well. The companies are also only very insufficiently fulfilling their obligation to inform the state occupational safety authorities about reportable accidents at work, it said.
