Frankenblick (dpa/th) - According to its own statements, the Thuringia state association of the Ecological Democratic Party (ÖDP) is complaining about the state election law that was changed in June. As the state chairman Martin Truckenbrodt announced in Frankenblick on Saturday, the ÖDP is concerned with overturning the number of supporter signatures required for admission to the election. In his opinion, the regulation, according to which 250 such signatures are required for each constituency, is unconstitutional. The provision affects parties that are not represented in the state parliament.
Truckenbrodt explained that according to current case law, a maximum of 0.25 percent of those entitled to vote in a constituency can be set for the number of signatures. In Thuringia, on the other hand, this value currently averages 0.64 percent of those entitled to vote. He further criticized the fact that the current Thuringian state election law had not specified how high the number of letters of support to be collected should be in the event of a premature new election to the Thuringian state parliament.
