Thuringia: Olympic champion Vogel: catching up on accessibility

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to Olympic champion Kristina Vogel, Germany has a lot of catching up to do in terms of accessibility. "There's a lot of catching up to do," said the former world-class track cyclist in an interview with the "Thuringian General" (Monday). "I was in Dubai recently. When I compare the accessibility there with ours, there is a huge difference." In future traffic planning, affected people would have to be more involved, such as families with prams, people with walkers and wheelchair users.

Vogel has won two Olympic golds and eleven world titles in her career. She has been paralyzed from the waist down since a training accident in the summer of 2018. The 32-year-old, who sits on the Erfurt City Council for the CDU, will spend less time in Thuringia in the future. "We have built a new one near my place of work - the Federal Performance Center Kienbaum in Brandenburg," she said. "That's where the focus will shift."
