Erfurt (dpa/th) - The parliamentary group leader of the left, Steffen Dittes, has proposed a "small stability agreement" to the opposition CDU parliamentary group with a view to the 2024 state election year. It should ensure that there is still a Thuringian state budget for the coming year, said Dittes on Thursday in Erfurt. In his view, there should be an understanding between the factions of the red-red-green minority coalition and the largest opposition faction "how we can come up with a budget."

If this does not succeed, Thuringia is threatened with standstill in the super election year 2024 with European, local and state elections. The governing coalition of Left, SPD and Greens does not have its own majority in the state parliament, it lacks four votes for its own decisions. After a lengthy tug-of-war with red-red-green, the CDU parliamentary group passed the budget for 2023 in the state parliament at the end of December by abstaining from the vote.
