Thuringia: Police are preparing for cashless payment transactions

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Paying tickets directly with the card: In the future, payments to the Thuringian police are to be processed without cash. The Vice President of the State Police Directorate, Thomas Quittenbaum, handed over the first mobile devices for card payments in Erfurt on Friday, the police said. By September 1, the devices are to be gradually introduced across the Thuringian police. In addition to the well-known GiroCard and credit card variants, it is then also possible to pay the corresponding amounts contactlessly or via the Internet payment method.

According to the information, a total of 446 corresponding devices will initially be used, the number of which can be variably adjusted depending on actual needs. The basic costs amount to around 150,000 euros per year. "In return, more than 3,000 individually assigned receipt blocks will be a thing of the past," the statement said. In addition, the extensive work process for managing the cash can be reduced to an unavoidable level.
