Bad Langensalza (dpa/th) – The prisoner who escaped from Gräfentonna prison (Gotha district) on Wednesday was caught by the police. The man was taken into custody around midnight in Bad Langensalza (Unstrut-Hainich district) after hours of searching, as a police spokesman said on Thursday night. The 31-year-old was then returned to prison.

The prisoner is in jail for extortion. He managed to escape from an exit on Wednesday afternoon. “He was accompanied and tied to a doctor’s visit and fled,” said the spokesman.

The police had received numerous tips from the population during the search. A police helicopter was also used in the search.
