Thuringia: prelude to the Achava Festival: more than 50 events

Weimar (dpa/th) - The cooperation between religions and cultures will be celebrated again in the next two weeks at the Achava Festival in Thuringia. More than 50 events are on the program until September 25 - from concerts, street festivals, readings, exhibitions to city tours and cooking classes. The Sadaqa quartet will perform the opening concert on Saturday evening in the German National Theater in Weimar. With the artistic support of the award-winning youth choir of the schola cantorum weimar, the musicians enter into a multifaceted musical dialogue.

The opening concert also marks the end of this year's Weimar Art Festival. Achava is Hebrew and means brotherhood. "The Achava Festival sends a clear signal of humanity and thus has an effect both in Thuringia and beyond our state," said Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) in advance. "In a year of global crises and against the background of the war in Ukraine, Achava's statements are particularly topical."

This year, the city of Gotha is presenting itself as a new partner of the Achava Festival with several events that present a cross-section of Jewish life in Gotha. Among other things, a Jewish service will be held in Gotha for the first time in more than 75 years. In Weimar, eyewitness talks with Buchenwald survivors are among the focal points of the festival. According to the festival management, other venues are Erfurt, Eisenach, Arnstadt and Bad Salzungen.
