Thuringia: provocative animal welfare action: baby doll on the grill

Erfurt (dpa/th) - With a provocative action, animal rights activists in Erfurt protested against grilling and eating meat - and that in the country of the bratwurst. On Tuesday, activists from the organization Peta stuck a baby doll on the skewer of a grill that was not switched on on the boulevard in the heart of the state capital. According to their own statement, they wanted to make it clear that animals, like people, do not belong on the grill. At the same time, they promoted "animal-friendly choices" when shopping and eating vegetables or other meat alternatives.

Passers-by reacted to the almost one-and-a-half-hour action, sometimes shaking their heads or defending themselves. Many walked past the grill and the posters without comment. A Peta spokesman said there had also been a few positive responses. The police were not aware of any disruptions to the action.
