Thuringia: Ramelow: Clarity on energy price relief by November

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) expects the federal government to clarify the specific design of relief for energy customers by the beginning of November. Private households, like companies, should quickly know how to calculate, said Ramelow of the German Press Agency on Friday after a meeting of the state heads of government with representatives of the federal government in Hanover. The prime ministers had called for the gas price brake for private households to be introduced as early as January 1, 2023.

At the meeting, they also called for equal relief for users of oil and wood pellet heating systems, Ramelow said. In rural areas, heating is more likely to be done with oil. A commission set up by the federal government had recommended the introduction of the gas price brake for private consumers and small companies from March, at the latest from April. For industrial companies, the introduction had already been recommended at the beginning of the year.

According to the Thuringian head of government, a fall in gas prices can currently be observed on the world market. From his point of view, this indicates that the situation could stabilize in the spring. "This means that we are evading Russian access." However, even then, the low prices seen for gas deliveries from Russia should not be expected.

The prime ministers want to meet the chancellor on November 2nd.
