Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) expressed his shock at the death of SPD politician Jens Bullerjahn from Saxony-Anhalt. "It makes me incredibly sad," Ramelow wrote on Twitter. "We wanted to push the Transformation East even further. He was full of energy and had so many ideas. Then came his bitter diagnosis."

Thuringia's SPD state leader and Interior Minister Georg Maier also spoke on Twitter of very sad news. On behalf of the Thuringian SPD, he expresses his heartfelt condolences to Bullerjahn's relatives and friends.

Bullerjahn died on Saturday at the age of 60 in a hospital in Eisleben. The social democrat was finance minister in Saxony-Anhalt from 2006 to 2016. Earlier this year, he revealed that he had ALS, a rare disease. This is an incurable disease of the nervous system.
