Thuringia: Ramelow: Politicians are expelled from public space

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) has warned of protests about the energy crisis that politicians could be driven out of public space. In an interview with the editorial network Germany (RND/Tuesday), he also blamed individual representatives of his party for the fact that Russian war propaganda fell on fertile ground in Germany.

He is also personally affected by the growing protests: "There are calls for demonstrators to appear where the Prime Minister is visiting. And then people come to disturb me." In his opinion, it is not about political discourse or articulating protest. "It's about driving politicians out of public space," said Thuringia's head of government.

Legitimate protests, to which the left is also calling, have nothing to do with this tendency. "My party would not intimidate anyone. Instead, they articulate that the federal government has forgotten pensioners, the self-employed and students at the moment and has lost sight of social arithmetic. You have to address everything." However, unlike some of the callers, he would not speak of Monday demonstrations.

Ramelow said with a view to all of Germany: "We have had growing frustration since 2015."
