Riems (dpa/th) - According to Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left), the Thuringian glass industry should continue to receive natural gas even if the gas supply collapses. The prime ministers of the eastern federal states had taken a unanimous decision "that the gas supply for the glass industry must be guaranteed under all circumstances," Ramelow told the German Press Agency after the conclusion of the consultations on Monday.
According to the text of the decision, all companies "whose production facilities would be destroyed in the event of an interruption in the gas supply" should continue to be supplied. The technical prerequisites would have to be created for this. He also discussed this with the federal government again, said Ramelow. The glass industry fears that natural gas will run dry because the glass in the furnaces will then harden and become unusable.
In Thuringia, all glass companies in Thuringia agreed on a plan for decarbonization last week, Ramelow said. "I reckon it's doable within 10 years," he said. Only a few electric tubs are available every year. But that also presupposes that there is a corresponding energy base in southern Thuringia.
