Thuringia: Rapid approval: Wiegand glass can replace natural gas

Großwiesenbach/Jena (dpa/th) - Wiegand-Glas was one of the first Thuringian companies to benefit from shorter approval procedures when changing energy sources. In the future, the glass industry manufacturer will be able to heat its melting tanks in its southern Thuringian plant in Groß Breitenbach with light fuel oil instead of just natural gas as before. The necessary immission control approval was granted on Monday, as announced by the Ministry of Energy.

"I have promised to reduce the bureaucracy when converting systems to an absolute minimum," said Energy Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens) according to the announcement. "With an approval period of a few days, the administration has shown what is possible." This means that the traditional company on the Rennsteig can replace natural gas as an energy source and maintain operations even during the energy crisis.

The fuel switch away from natural gas to alternative energy is a central element in reducing gas consumption in Germany. This is primarily intended to maintain the energy supply. In view of the high gas prices and concerns about the security of supply, many companies are looking for energy alternatives.
