Thuringia: Red-red-green overruled on application for real estate transfer tax

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The state parliament has called on Thuringia's state government with the votes of the CDU, FDP and AfD to advocate in the Bundesrat for an exemption from the real estate transfer tax. It should be half a million euros in Thuringia to make it easier for families to buy a one-time home for their own use, according to an application made by the CDU and FDP in Erfurt on Friday. According to the FDP, this would mean tax savings of up to 33,000 euros when buying a house. However, the real estate transfer tax law for the federal states would have to be changed for this.

The red-red-green minority coalition, which spoke out against the motion by the CDU and FDP, was outvoted by the CDU, FDP and AfD. The government coalition of Left, SPD and Greens has not had a majority in Parliament since 2019 - it is missing four votes.

A bill by the FDP to reduce the real estate transfer tax in Thuringia from 6.5 to 3.5 percent was rejected by the state parliament. An AfD application, with which the state was asked to take over the real estate transfer tax for families and low-income households, did not find a majority either.
