Thuringia: Red-Red-Green plans hardship fund for road expansion contributions

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to the left-wing local politician Sascha Bilay, the parliamentary groups of the Left, SPD and Greens are planning to create a hardship fund for road construction contributions. People who cannot raise the money for the road construction contributions at once and who have therefore received an application for a deferral from their municipality should benefit. A law is needed, said Bilay. A deferral means that at least 1000 euros per year have to be paid. The "Thüringer Allgemeine" reported about it first.

It is planned that these people will still have to pay for at least four years. Everything that goes beyond that should be reimbursed by the state to the communities.

Road development contributions were abolished in Thuringia in 2019. These are fees that have been collected by the municipalities for various road expansion and drainage measures for many years. Residents were then asked to pay and sometimes had to pay several thousand, sometimes even tens of thousands of euros. Notifications of such fees to be paid were still possible until the end of 2022, despite the retrospective abolition as of January 1, 2019.
