Erfurt (dpa/th) - Sales in Thuringia's retail trade exceeded the pre-corona level in the first half of 2022. Adjusted for inflation, sales were 0.7 percentage points, nominally 11.9 percentage points above those of the same period in 2019, as the State Office for Statistics announced on Tuesday in Erfurt. According to the information, the development was also due to some sharp price increases, for example in supermarkets or at gas stations.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the sales of Thuringian retail companies in the first half of 2022 were 3.1 percent higher in real terms - i.e. adjusted for inflation - according to preliminary results. Nominally, i.e. in current prices, sales increased by 9.6 percent.
According to the statisticians, sales in supermarkets, self-service department stores and hypermarkets fell by 3.8 percent in real terms. In nominal terms, they were 2.7 percent above the value achieved in the first half of 2021. This means that although fewer goods were bought, more had to be paid for due to higher prices.
This effect became even clearer when trading in fuels. Here, real sales fell by 5.5 percent. In contrast, nominal sales increased by 22.2 percent.
