Thuringia: Rising prices: union protest in Erfurt

"We don't freeze for your profits!" - this motto was followed by numerous demonstrators on the streets in Erfurt. Rights were not wanted in the union protest.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to the organizers, around 2,500 people took to the streets in Erfurt on Sunday to compensate for the exploding food and energy prices. The relief does not reach the broad middle class, criticized the chairman of the DGB Hessen-Thüringen, Michael Rudolph, at the rally on the station forecourt.

Greater tax relief for low and middle earners and a much heavier burden on the wealthy, heirs and company profits are necessary. “What cannot exist is a “keep it up”,” said the DGB boss. The police spoke of around 2,000 demonstrators who marched through the city center with posters and banners.

To the protest under the motto "Not with us! - We don't freeze for profits!" had called an alliance that was supported by DGB trade unions as well as youth and social organizations - including Fridays for Future or the AWO district association. Leftists like Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow were also at the rally. A small, outwardly right-wing group was prevented from joining the protest by trade unionists and stewards, a reporter observed.
