Erfurt (dpa/th) - From Wednesday, recognized politically persecuted people of the SED dictatorship and victims of forced doping in the GDR can apply for help from the Thuringian state commissioner for the processing of the SED dictatorship. Those affected by the SED dictatorship residing in Thuringia who are in a particularly difficult economic situation can receive benefits from the hardship fund, as the Thuringian state commissioner announced on Tuesday. All persons who have been rehabilitated from political persecution or have been recognized under the Doping Victim Assistance Act are entitled to claim.

Possible help can be support with social integration and support with medical measures, but also the creation or maintenance of self-determined housing and living opportunities. Technical everyday aids, communication aids and aids to improve mobility can also be granted. Running costs cannot be covered by the hardship fund.
